COOL WINTER FUN
CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING:
There is lots of great cross-country skiing in
London. All of our many parks are open season
for skiers (if you have your own skis). If you
prefer groomed trails, ski rentals, and a lodge
to relax in afterwards, there are two facilities in
the area. The Fanshawe Ski Centre at Fanshawe
Conservation Area has more than 10 km of trails
and is open weekends only, 1424 Clarke Road
(1 km north of Huron Street) 519-451-2800,
www.thamesriver.on.ca. Circle R Ranch has
13 km of groomed and marked trails and a 5 km
trail for skate skiing, 3017 Carriage Rd. in
Delaware 519-471-3799, 1-877-844-8738,

ICE SKATING:
As soon as the weather turns cold, Londoners
can enjoy free outdoor skating at Victoria Park.
Skate to popular music throughout the winter
and to Christmas carols during the weeks before
Christmas. Open daily, including Christmas Eve
and Christmas Day 519-661-5000. The Rotary
Rink, located outside the Covent Garden
Market, is also free and open daily during the
winter months 519-439-3921 and the renovated
Storybook Gardens in Springbank Park has
a 250-metre skating trail (admission charges
apply) 519-661-5770.
SKIING OR SNOWBOARDING:
Spend a day at the slopes in the London area.
Cobble Hills Golf and Ski Club offers downhill
skiing and snowboarding and is also equipped
for night skiing. Cobble Hills is located 11 km
northeast of London on Highway 2 (5714
Cobble Hills Rd., Thamesford) 519-461-1720,
www.cobblehills.ca. The London Ski Club
(Boler Mountain) is only 10 minutes from
downtown London (689 Griffith St., Byron)
519-657-8822, www.bolermountain.com. Both
facilities are open daily from December until
March (weather permitting) and offer snowmaking
equipment, lessons, a snack shop and
ski or snowboard rentals.
TUBING:
This winter favourite is perfect for everyone
in the family because no special skills are
required and any almost any age can participate
(not for very young children). Near the London
area, you can find tubing at the River Valley
